Well Dudley, I have some good news for you - I found the results !

Round 3, Saturday 7 May 1966:
Essendon 8.18 (66) defeated Collingwood 8.6 (54)

However, and more importantly, Collingwood achieved a significantly higher
score in Round 22: 10.13 (73)
to lose to St. Kilda 10.14 (74), on Saturday 24 September 1966.

If all this is regarded as "the more important news", then I hope that it
sates.
