Re: Green Track for Parramatta Light Rail
  Prescott

IWLR is operated by the same consortium that is building and running CSELR.
It's just that the CAFs were a one-off direct purchase in 2011 by TfNSW
when the government initially took over the line and before the contract
was awarded to the consortium. Parramatta's vehicles will be supplied by
its consortium. Not sure about the position with Newcastle which is also
privately operated, I think those trams were directly acquired by the
government.

There's no great danger of the citybus sector going foreign at the moment.
Yes, the chassis come predominantly from Sweden and Germany but the
bodybuilding is overwhelmingly Australian, dominated by Volgren. Asian
models are making small incursions and will become more signficant with the
growth of electric buses, but even a couple of the local manufacturers,
including Volgren, are coming forward to build bodies for these as well.
The Spanish coachbuilder, Irizar, dominates the long distance bus market,
however, but again there are also local bodybuilders. The urban bus
industry has volume on its side to sustain local manufacture, the tram
industry doesn't, with the added extremely likely disadvantage of potential
droughts between orders.
