Considering that Griffin's plans of 1911 included provision for trams,
this surely must be the longest gestation for a system.

How about we rephrase the question:Does Canberra set the record for
longest time from founding as a definite conurbation (is that the word
we're looking for?) to first tramway.
e.g. Canberra 1913/1927 to 2019Sydney 1788-1861Melbourne 1837-1885

Presumably, "Gold Coast" as the name for a conurbation, as opposed to
a region, dates from 1970s or later. What is its origin?etc

From a tramway perspective, Melbourne is also a "region". Once you get
away from Melbourne 3000, trams operate to many suburbs, no doubt
including some other "cities".
In Sydney, the CSET will run from City of Sydney to the City of
Randwick. No doubt Adelaide has similar arrangements.

Perhaps Brisbane was the only large system to be contained within a
single city boundary?

There is no suburb called Gold Coast, the same with Hervey
Bay. People usually say they live on THE Gold Coast which covers all
areas between the NSW border (which actually runs east west down the
middle of the Main Street of Coolangatta), the mountain range several
Km to the west and somewhere near Ormeau in the north.

Oh, yes. Forgot about GC!

Signalling questions: Has Canberra invented their own set
indications? What do single yellow/double yellow mean?

How are the traffic signal T phases triggered when there's an
intersection immediately after a stop?

Re: [TramsDownUnder] Re: Canberra trams

Day trip from Sydney yesterday. Very impressed. All seemed to be
working ok.
Question: When was the last Australian city to get trams for the first
time? 100+ years ago?
