How about we rephrase the question:
Does Canberra set the record for longest time from founding as a definite
conurbation (is that the word we're looking for?) to first tramway.
e.g. Canberra 1913/1927 to 2019
Sydney 1788-1861
Melbourne 1837-1885
Presumably, "Gold Coast" as the name for a conurbation, as opposed to a
region, dates from 1970s or later. What is its origin?
