Labor promises big bucks for NSW transport
Labor has promised to spend more than $500 million to upgrade the Princes Highway and south coast transport links in NSW if it wins government.

The commitment will involve investing $150 million over the next four years on the Princes Highway, with a total commitment of $500 million, Anthony Albanese, the party's transport spokesman, said in a statement on Monday.

Roads will be upgraded, reducing congestion and boosting productivity and creating jobs, but above all, improving safety, Labor says.

It will also provide $50 million towards the completion of the long-stalled Maldon-Dombarton rail link in the Illawarra region.

Completing the part-built rail project would provide a 35km rail link between Port Kembla and southwest Sydney and be a boon for freight logistics in the Illawarra and southwestern Sydney, Mr Albanese said.

"The South Coast and regional Australia need infrastructure investment now, not years from now and Labor stands ready to work co-operatively with the state government to make sure that happens," he said.
