The patronage surge in 2014-15 financial year is directly attributable to
the opening of the Dulwich Hill extension in March 2014 and extension of
the Opal fare system to the line in December 2014, so the service became
attractive for anybody to use, including students at local schools as Greg
says. Anecdotal evidence is that most of the patronage (and the
overcrowding) is still at the Darling Harbour/Pyrmont end of the line which
has been open since August 1997. Again I believe that the inclusion in the
Opal system would have made it more attractive to use.
