Re: Newcastle tramway opening
  Prescott

Figures have been released that show that the Newcastle line carried
120,000 people in March, that's an average of 4,000 a day. TfNSW, in its
characteristic habit of under-estimating trams, projected 2,500 trips a
day. In March the entire Newcastle bus network carried about 450,000. So
the tram, one "quiet" little line at the eastern extremity of the city,
carried more than a quarter of the passengers of the entire Newcastle bus
network. Also, for those still nursing a grudge about the cutback of the
Newcastle rail line, the latter never carried anything like that number
between Wickham and Newcastle station in recent years.
