Belgian Tram Controller OT
  Richard Youl

For those of you interested in controllers, these ones come from the last version of standard Belgian Vicinal trams, namely the S class.

The high hp rating of these cars was because they were designed to also haul at least two trailers.

They also had the unusual feature, in trams at least, or having a series, series parallel, and parallel notches. I can’t remember if they also included dynamic braking but as these trams had the same brake valves as Melbourne W class, Sydney corridor cars etc, any use of dynamic brakes would be quite rare.

Regards,

“This picture comes from the overseer of Jumet (Charleroi) workshops.
The asbestos problems forced the TEC to remove original pieces by the new in the photo (red arrow).
The controller is an ACEC typ TC476 for trams with 4 motors of 62 HP.”
