New Video: Sydney Light Rail Start of Service 11.8.97. 25 mins
  Richard Youl

Compared with today’s standards, the first Sydney light rail line commenced carrying passengers rather quickly after the first tram was delivered – approximately 10 weeks and that involved training of all the drivers as well.

However historians tend to ignore this start of service on 11 August, and only count the official opening date of 31 August as the opening.

In some respects this video is timely in that 2107, the last tram in the order, last year joined the Sydney Tramway Museum fleet. However you won’t see it in this video, as it will still being built in Melbourne at that time.
