Not as such - the route up Lygon St was effectively made redundant by
the MB&CTT putting electric trams in Swanston St a few tens of metres west.

However, the route further out along Elgin St, Johnston St ... and
extended further would be viable ... but it's unlikely that government
would give up two motorist lanes for the tram only lanes that would be
required for a new tramway today.

The once promised tramway along the centre of the Eastern freeway would
be a better solution.
