Re: Re: When is a Tram'?

It seems in the Gold Coast that "Trams Only" is too hard for some
motorists to comprehend.

In Sydney, some seem to think that BUS and BMW have the same meaning
Brian.

To Ronald - those references to definition of light rail in the 1988
and 2013 legislation do not override the Road Rules. However, once a
line leaves a road reserve it is relieved of road traffic obligations,
but the RMS is giving out a clear message that in the interest of
public safety, signage and terminology should be consistent in a way
that is understood by the public. It's a bit of common sense after all
these years of that "light rail" bs that we've had to endure!
I note that in the PR graphics for Canberra (which is also
strictly-speaking a Tramway under the Road Rules), at intersections
where they need to stop people accidentally driving onto the tramway
(Gold Coast style!), instead of painting "Trams Only" on the pavement,
the illustrations show "LRVs Only"! Now the average member of the
public wouldn't have a clue what an LRV is and no doubt many would
think it's some sort of SUV. I'd interpret that sign as an invitation
to drive one's Land Rover vehicle along the tramway for a quick trip
home! ;)
