Yes indeed - they were quite unsuitable for heavy electric trams.

I guess the crossing was more massive, so they got away with it for nearly 40 years!


There was another instance of cable tram track - and even a set of points - being used in an electric tram setting, but not by electric trams.

This was the tracks running from the Body Shop at Preston Workshops out to the timber stacks. (pic attached)

They used hand propelled trolleys and the tracks were built from spare cable tram rail and points.

I tried to get the track for TMSV but owing to mis-communication with the contractors demolishing that part of the workshops we missed out.
