Variotram 2107 today at Loftus
  Matthew Geier

Today at Loftus, our members day was held along with Transport Heritage
NSW holding their 'sector volunteers Christmas party' at Loftus.

2107 was bought out and shown to the volunteers present. I and a number
of other members have spent a number of weeks cleaning off the graffiti
the tram acquired when stored at Penrith and generally getting the tram
into a presentable condition.

2107 is not the only preserved low floor tram, 2 German museums have low
floor prototypes, but neither are operable. 2107 came down to the park
for display under it's own power.

It will be some time before 2107 becomes part of the regular running
fleet - we have a lot of repairs and touch-ups to do. And infrastructure
upgrades to support it's pantograph.

The eagle eyed may notice 2017 is missing it's roof skirts. I removed
those so we could work on getting the sun baked vinyl wrap off at ground
level instead of swinging off ladders.

The roof also still needs to be cleaned of leaf litter and the drains
cleared out. (It also acquired the leaves at Penrith, along with a large
number of spiders) When the roof has been clean, the skirt segments will
go back up as they are cleaned.

What is more amazing is not that the tram has things wrong and broken,
it's the number of things that still work after it's 3 1/2 years sitting
in a trucking yard being a home to spiders.

I didn't take an interior shot or a class 3/4 view shot today.
