Fwd: Tram Life Extension
  Richard Youl

That is an interesting span of ages for simultaneous overhauls, or did 2124 get dinged up somewhere (?Bundoora line).

Its destination of Queen Victoria Market strikes me as a bit unusual. Is this a regular Elizabeth St shuttle?

And 2006 is a bit special to me, as I drove it on the Light Rail when new in 1988.

It looks like Mal has no trouble synchronising his camera shutter with the destinations. Didn’t someone say a few years ago that a shutter speed of 1/25 was successful to do that?

Regards,

As readers of TDU know, Melbourne is running an extensive tram refurbishment program aimed at extending the serviceable life of trams by up to 15 years.

Here are a couple of examples of B2 class trams just out of that program.

It's an extensive refurbishment involving serious structural work and rust removal, but unfortunately not including upholstery replacement not stanchion re-finishing.

The B2s were built between 1987 and 1994 and are expected to stay in service until 2032.

Mal Rowe - glad to see the Bs will stay around
