Sorry, Mal, but it seems a bit of a stretch for the Grumpy Old Men of TDU to appreciate modern art (or modern anything?) :)

But I think the Fremantle installation looks brilliant – it is only temporary and easily removed, after all. It makes me wish I had gone to COTMA after all, just to see it. It suggests more municipal creativity in Fremantle than I suspected existed when on my sole visit in 2008.

After a little investigation, I discovered why these stripes are still all over High St a year later. What a disaster.

And this one is a lulu. Getting it off that stonework and restoring the finish is going to be a big problem.

I'm glad that I was able to see High St before it was vandalised. Next time I'm there no doubt I will be able to see a whole lot of fully-repainted facades with the ratepayers having footed a bill heading north of $1 million. It's hilarious that council rushed to remove it from its newly-restored town hall as quickly as possible. They must have been cacking themselves when they discovered the consequences of letting an "artist" graffiti their building. Other property-owners will no doubt be wise to being tricked in the future.

We were probably in Fremantle on the same day Mal but I didn't walk that far down High St so didn't notice this.

Puzzlingly, this news item is from 2017 so maybe they've done it again? Though I don't remember anything like that in 2017 either.

It's a shame if you've come across Australia on a rare visit to look at one of the most beautiful and intact Victorian townscapes in the country only to find it ruined by some "artistic" ****.

I'm in WA for the COTMA conference and have already made a trip to

But wait ... what's with all the yellow stripes?

The answer is revealed when looking back in the opposite (westward)
direction. (second attachment)
