Re: Bendigo tram derailment today--Part 1.
  Andrew Cook

This afternoon, bogie tram No. 45 (was No. 18) in its Anzac livery, derailed at the points leading into Tramways Avenue, whilst travelling to North Bendigo. It appears that the rear bogie decided to go to the depot rather than North Bendigo. A shuttle service was provided to both ends of the tourist tramway whilst No. 45 was re-railed.

Y1 610 ran between the mine and the McCrae Street loop and former Adelaide trams Birney No. 302 (G type) and H type No. 369 ran between Tramways Avenue and North Bendigo, with passengers transferring on foot to continue their journey. H type No. 369 was on a special charter with a school group and one of the attached photos (in Part 2) shows the group transferring to Y1 610. No. 369 then ran a trip to North Bendigo as the regular tourist tram, which is unusual these days, as this car is often used on special charters only.

Part 2 will follow,

Andrew Cook (a local).
