GOTransport Minister Mark Bailey slams Burleigh MP Hart for trying derail Stage 3A of light rail
Campbell Gellie, Gold Coast Bulletin
August 13, 2018 4:53pm
TRANSPORT Minister Mark Bailey has slammed opposition member Michael Hart for trying to “derail the light rail”.

Today the Bulletin revealed Mr Hart had written to Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate complaining he had not been included in the consultation for Stage 3A of the light rail.

Burleigh MP, Mr Hart, criticised the council for not representing the 60,000 residents in his electorate, which the light rail is proposed to go through.

But in a Tweet, Mr Bailey labelled the letter as “spin” revealing he gave Mr Hart a briefing on the light rail less than a month earlier.

“Forgotten you got full Light Rail Stage 3 Biz Case briefing by (Transport and Main Roads) and me face-to-face in my office July 11?” Mr Bailey wrote.

“Why do you and LNP rally against Light Rail at every turn?”

Mr Hart replied saying Mr Bailey briefed him on his plans for the light rail.

“(And) guaranteed me you hadn’t done any survey or engineering work to determine if it’s possible for Light Rail to go south or west of Burleigh,” he wrote.

“This article is aimed at the GC Council’s consultation and it pretty clear about it.”

Mr Bailey labelled that spin and said his attack on the council was misdirected.

“That’s your spin, but glad you admit now you have had a full briefing only a month ago,” he wrote.

“You are aware too that it’s a joint business case with Council so what’s the point of attacking them when you’ve been fully briefed?

“Why are you & LNP railing against the light rail?
