Mal,
I attach 4 photos from the SLSA collection which further depict the
vicinity of the Hervey photo:

- PRG-631-2-1238
https://collections.slsa.sa.gov.au/resource/PRG+631/2/1238 A view of
the main block of the Children's Hospital from the east by Ernest Gall in
1894. This would be taken from Sir Edwin Smith Ave (the Walkerville tram
route). The brick wall to the right of the photo is on Brougham Pl and
appears in the Hervey pic.
- B-68660 https://collections.slsa.sa.gov.au/resource/B+68660 A view
in 1912 south from Brougham Gardens over the Brougham Pl/King William Rd
(formerly Poole St) intersection which appears in the Hervey pic. The
tram/light pole which features in the Hervey pic is in the centre of this
photo.
- B-3491 https://collections.slsa.sa.gov.au/resource/B+3491 A view by
Francis Gabriel in 1904 looking over Brougham Pl to the hospital with (l-r)
the main wing, the brick building in the Hervey pic, the Angas building on
King William with St Peter's Cathedral behind, and two horse trams.
Hervey's camera was problably just off shot to the right of the trams.
- B-3515 https://collections.slsa.sa.gov.au/resource/B+3515 Another
view by Gabriel from 1910 showing a Type A combination tram negotiating the
track at Brougham Pl/King William which appears in the Hervey pic.

Each of the bullet points starts with a link to the SLSA site giving access
to info and a hires version of the photo.
