It's amazing how NSW's tram designer, Fergus Maclean, in the 1930s, knew more about world tramway developments and technology than these guys will ever understand, including developments in countries such as Hungary, Germany and Italy, in spite of language barriers, limited communication (seamail, cable, incipient airmail) and the difficulty of swanning off to overseas tours and conferences at the drop of a hat.
