Re: MOOROOPNA

Hi Noel,

That's the second station on the Goulburn Valley line to be burnt down (by pyromaniacs?) in recent years. Murchison East's station building was burnt down by person/s unknown a few years ago as well. I've attached a couple of shots taken on fan tours in the 1960s which show Leon Marshall Wood in the view:

They are:

00198--Leon is at far right, standing on Coldstream platform, as N 468 runs past with a special pass to Healesville. Date: 1-10-1966.

00514--Leon is at far left in the shot of a workman's sleeper at Murchison East, taken during a DERM tour (64 RM and trailer 30 MT) to Colbinabbin and Girgarre. Date: 16-9-1967.

Leon was a true gentleman.

Cheers,

Andrew Cook.

Subject: [TramsDownUnder] MOOROOPNA

I noted on television news tonight 13/01/18 that the Mooroopna station building on the VR Goulburn Valley line has been destroyed by fire.

The significance of Mooroopna is that the late Rev. Leon Marshall Wood researcher of the Victorian Railways Electric Street Railway was once the Anglican Minister at Mooroopna.

I personally knew Leon at Elwood and still have letters sent by him from Mooroopna.

Noel Reed.
