Melbourne weather forecast: heavy storms for Friday afternoon peak Herald Sun 11.1.18.
MELBOURNE is expected to suffer peak-hour chaos with severe thunderstorms predicted for late Friday afternoon.
Bureau of Meteorology senior forecaster Michael Efron said those making their way home from the city in the late afternoon would see heavy storms, with the risk of damaging wind, heavy rainfall and large hailstones.
“A cold front will make its way over from western Victoria and there is the potential for these storms to be really severe,” Mr Efron said.
“We are likely to see areas of Melbourne and the eastern suburbs receive 20-30mm of rain in short spaces of time. This may cause flash flooding for affected areas.”
There’s a risk of damaging wind, heavy rainfall and large hailstones in Friday’s storm event. Picture: AAP Wind of more than 90kmh is forecast for the day.
