I don't think I'll be rushing in to invest in the organisation. On the application form for shares, it refers to anti money laundering provisions. I'd put more trust in the local Chinese laundry proprietors to look after my funds.
The whole emphasis seems to be on producing a cheap tramway - whereas in Sydney we've got an overblown example of what not to do, there is a happy medium.
As far as the tram which caught fire, I did have a chat with the driver of the vehicle when he visited the Sydney Tramway Museum. He was lucky to escape without getting burnt himself. The RAIB report said that
40 The fire probably occurred because of a fault in the 24 volt system of the tram. The condition of the wiring and the equipment installation was not to a standard that would be
acceptable for a tram carrying passengers. It also said that there was electrical equipment contained in a plywood box. Hmmmmm.
It seems as though the company is actually based in Bootle, rather than Preston. Bootle is a suburban area of Liverpool, which I recall driving through some years back. It was one of the most depressing areas I had ever seen, with dirty roller shutters pulled down over the shop windows. Must look it up on google maps to see if it has changed since then. Liverpool now is now quite a nice city and a safe one. Stayed in the centre two years ago. It usen't to be that way.
