Port Kembla is NSW's doormat. The government gets $760 million for selling it and then puts the money into road projects on truck routes around the state, one of which is being used to deliver these trams to Canberra, Newcastle etc. The Maldon-Dombarton freight railway isn't even mentioned in the government's long-term freight plan for the state. Every time there is some bad weather and a geological event, Port Kembla's rail connections are severed, sometimes for days at a time. But not to worry, the heros of the road freight industry will get your trams through on their nice heavy-duty highways.

So what's the drill on transporting trams on trains nowadays?

What's more 'fun' is the Newcastle trams are apparently going to get
delivered to Port Kembla too, as the Port of Newcastle doesn't have
suitable Ro-Ro dock facilities. So off at the port south of Sydney and
truck them to the port north of Sydney.
