The required paperwork would have cost more than the road haulage costs :-)

One of the independent rail maintenance contractors moves their rail
plant around between jobs on the backs of trucks. Appears it's cheaper
to lift a Plasser tamping machine onto the back of a semi and take it by
road that to get a path to drive it self propelled between jobs.

What's more 'fun' is the Newcastle trams are apparently going to get
delivered to Port Kembla too, as the Port of Newcastle doesn't have
suitable Ro-Ro dock facilities. So off at the port south of Sydney and
truck them to the port north of Sydney.
