RE: Re Sandringham - 1940s VR 48

Here is my picture of VR tram 50 at Black Rock terminus on 21.01.1953.

The 'hat' on the trolley wire was not necessary on that occasion

Were these 'hats' needed to help conductors with shaky hands to centre the
wheel on the wire, or were they to avoid an arc which could be seen by enemy
aircraft ?

Thanks Mal for the VR picture. It is at Black Rock termo not Sandy. I would
date it in the earl fifties by the look of the Morris van in the background.

There was something odd about the photo and it took a bit of thought what
was different.

The tram has stopped about fifteen feet short of the normal spot and shops I
would not have usually seen are in shot.

The other thing missing for me was the hat on the overhead that made
centring the pole back on the line easier which of course is to the right
out of shot.

Love to make the pub night if I can get a leave pass..
