Re: Why trams on Sydney''s inner west light rail aren''t running more often when they''re needed

I am at a loss to understand what extra platforms are going to achieve to help on time running on this line.

In my video, the tram left Central on time but arrived 2 1/2 minutes late at Dulwich Hill. Some of that would've been caused by the passenger questioning the driver. Just why the return journey was not commenced for a number of minutes is unknown. Was the driver enjoying recovery time or did Control ask him to wait?

How much time could be picked up with faster running is open to debate but certainly new speed restrictions over all special work is not helping the cause.

The best headway according to the current timetable is an eight minute service in the peak hour.

Assuming a tram left Central on time, how a tram could lose eight minutes and delay the tram behind in the absence of a breakdown or emergency service interference is difficult for me to understand, so what use is a loop or second siding supposed to achieve when only rare abnormal circumstances cause bunching?

The timetable indicates that there are three minutes allowed between arrival and departure so again, what can cause the following tram to literally catch up?

As the government seems quite unwilling to put any extra money into this line, they are certainly not going to build a more elaborate terminus.

The only and cheapest improvement, if it is actually needed on more than extremely rare occasions, would be to extend the double track to immediately before the terminus so that passengers in a following tram can alight and leave by the station tram stop.

Pedestrian access to the railway station at present is somewhat roundabout. If any money were to be spent, the cheapest option I would think would be to build a footbridge over the three rail tracks, connecting the tram platform with the railway platform.
