In your recent email you mentioned fire brigades and trams.

This reminded me of the fire-hose bridges which trams [streetcars] in the USA used to allow them to cross fire hoses. Does anyone know if these devices have been used in Australia or elsewhere ?

Years ago in Stuttgart Germany it was the city fire brigade which attended to tram derailments etc, I believe. Possibly this is or was standard German practice.
