I guess that the first photo proves that the MM&TB had decided that loops were a silly idea and only unnecessarily wore out wheel flanges.

In Europe I found out that they were a great idea for sadistic tram drivers.. The Set Down tram stop was near the start of the loop, and the Pick Up stop somewhat further around the loop. All the trams I saw stayed at the Set Down location until just before departure time. Too bad for the punters standing in the cold or wet waiting to get on.
