They probably should. But my local operator doesn't even shedule in
recovery time. The drivers don't even get a break at the end of the run
as by the time they arrive at the terminus, it's time to leave.

The connection will only be used for workshop moves and thus probably
will only be single unit trams, so only 30m for the driver to walk to
change ends.

And the transfers to and from Rozelle will probably only be at night
when the traffic demands are much lower. They will have to crawl through
all the points between Haymarket and the Rozelle workshops as they have
railway check rails which the Citadis tramway profile wheels will not
engage with.

Nope. If the control room doesn't remotely set the points, the driver
hops out, inserts a key into a switch on a post and pushes a button.

The SLR was designed to be driven from the 'control room'. Driver
activation of the points appears to have been an afterthought. This
'controlled by signal box' thinking seems to have been kept though the
two extensions.
