RE: Tram to Dulwich Hill
  Jones, Richard

The green "exercise book" covers were legendary on Boxall tours, although I was not fortunate to have been any of them, not having had any contacts at the time with the enthusiast groups. I actually thought that I was the only one in Sydney who liked trams.
Various people who travelled on his tours told me that Norm used to place the required number, painted on the book cover, over the genuine number and take the photograph, with the tram bearing the number of a car probably scrapped 20 or more years previously.
I'm not sure who he was fooling there.
Regards
Dick

Further to my previous picture, this picture of the Sydney 'E' class trams was taken at the same location at Circular Quay. http://tdu.to/29210.att

The late Norm Boxall had an ambition to take a photograph of "every Sydney tram", hence the Boxall renumbering of 530 to read 474.

Noel Reed Again expressing an ambition to see Sydney 'E' 529-530 travelling along Flinders Street Melbourne followed by coupled Melbourne 'E' class trams. This could be a long awaited restoration job for the Bendigo tramway workshops. Hint. Hint. Hint.

Hi Mal,
The picture of 1086 was at the Alfred St terminus for Pitt St lines at Circular Quay.
My picture of 'OP'1007 http://tdu.to/29210.att was taken at the same place but from a different angle. The shops in the background were the same..

Note the side destination Marrickville which was an intermediate suburb on the Dulwich Hill line. Marrickville was also the home suburb of the late Norm Boxall a well known photographer of trams.
Noel Reed.

I'm rather struck by this pic by David Nowell.

It shows 1086 with a destination of Dulwich Hill - terminus of a more
recent tram line in Sydney.
http://tdu.to/1086-to-DulwichHill_Nowell.jpg

I am struck by the people - platform staff, the guy at right who looks
like he came straight out of a 1930s movie and the lady at left in her
fur coat.

I am also struck by the shops and signs - one shop is a ballet school
run by Misha Burlakov - who it seems started professional ballet in
Australia.
I remember Sal Vital - a powder to make a fizzy drink.

I think the location is George St - but could be at Circular Quay.

Mal Rowe - confident someone in Sydney will tell me the location as usual.
