If I understand correctly the L'P, N, Ks etc were not true M.U. operation,
rather they just had the motors connected with power going from the
controllers through the jumper cables. In the Os and Ps only the switching
voltage went through the jumpers.
The direct control cars had connections at one end only, the MUs could be
coupled at either end.
