Exactly! It was Greg S who mentioned it, not me. That's why I suggested Adelaide as a more relevant area of experience with maintenance in Australian conditions. It will have limited application in Sydney, for aesthetics (Moore Park) and noise suppression (Devonshire St) but otherwise, yes, not easy to maintain and in most sections of the routes it's better to keep open the scope for buses to enter the lanes.

Indeed a letter to Adelaide which has track in grass at Victoria Square (though mass concrete elsewhere in the "city of parks"!). 
If they're not sure about grass on the Devonshire St slope they might want to check the Barrandov line where it maintains the 6% grade off the end of the Hlubocepy viaduct:

Do we really pay them all this money just for them to say they're not sure about things that can be readily discovered? Time for a taxpayers' revolt?
