That and a culture of not expecting the destos to say anything sensible.

If it doesn't say what you want, it must be wrong so get on and ask the driver.
When the driver (asked for the 4000th time to day) gives the grumpy answer 'what does it say of the front'. the passenger storms off and files a complaint about staff with bad attitudes.

Sydney is a 'grump' city unfortunately.

Train passengers don't look either. On more than one occasion in the 90's I had to stop people from boarding RTM steam hauled end platform cars in suburban Sydney if we were pulled up by signals with the train on a platform.
There's a big hissing kettle on the front, carriages that look like they are from Fred Flintstone era and they still try to get on.

I don't think I'd last a day as a Sydney bus driver with out killing some one.
