In my time with SLR the Award guaranteed a set eight hours for any and every shift.

I wonder if that Award has had a "Work Choices" makeover?

Rail Safety regs limit the hours that a driver can put in, IIRC a driver can refuse to work more that nine hours with only exceptional circumstances the limit is ten hours.

Considering that a Football, Rugby or affle game only lasts a few hours the cost of providing special services, to say Moore Park, could be considerable. Can't see a private outfit wanting to provide a loss making service without a subsidy, either from the Govt or the organizers of the event via a loading on all ticket sales.

Personally I'd leave it to the buses to provide the special services to the SFS and SCG. That then would leave it open to come up with a route for ESLR that avoids knocking down a unit block, bridges over the Eastern Distributor/South Dowling Street, and ripping apart the park lands to the east.
