Sydney SE tramway through Surry Hills - call to arms!
  Tony Prescott

Okay folks, it's on again, almost Gold Coast all over again. A nasty little group of nimbys in Surry Hills is trying to block the Anzac Pde line from passing through their suburb (which it must do to link Central with Moore Park, there's no direct alternative). It's totally undisruptive and will brings benefits (and property value rise) to the suburb but they don't see it that way. One block of flats has to be demolished but it can be replaced on site when the work is completed but, no, they don't see it that way.

They have started a Facebook page and are trying to raise a petition to Parliament. Like those Gold Coast nutjobs they have a nasty habit of deleting any comments that oppose their position, so there is a need to flood their page with pro tram comments to stay ahead of their delete button.

They are called PUSH and this is their Facebook page:

(You may need to join Facebook but that's not a big deal - it's a great way of staying in touch with family and friends!)

I've posted a few comments and "likes" for one brave soul who has been arguing them. This is what I said:

"The alternative routes have been considered. Devonshire St provides the most direct clear route between Central and Moore Park (Cricket Ground etc). The only casualty is one block of flats which can be replaced on the same site when the work has finished. The line will produce urban improvement and activity in the area and a fast commute for its residents. You need to go to Europe and see tram lines through similar precincts to appreciate the benefits. You are also getting a stop out of it and your property values will rise as a result of it - I guess we won't hear from PUSH when that happens."

Come on troops!

cheers
