The Northcote cable trams were built to a different standard to the MT&O Co lines and passengers had to change at Clifton Hill.

The Northcite line was sold to the MTB (predecessor of the MMTB, who owned the cable tram infrastructure) in 1920.
The MMTB made them compatible and built a rather complex set of connecting tracks at Clifton Hill.
Through running commenced in March 1925 according to John Keating's book.

The pic on sale is almost certainly from the PROV collection - the VR had a fetish for taking photographs of their bridges with advertising on them!

The destination on the cable car seems to indicate that it dates from the period prior to through running through Clifton Hill.
