Re: Trams passing...Greek tavernas
  Roderick Smith

This concludes the Greek portion which I will post under this heading.
I have two of modern Greece, which will go under their own heading tomorrow,
adding to this morning's breaking of news that the modern tram system is to
be extended to Piraeus.

Piraeus (Athinai, Greece): Trolleybus 1107 in a side street.
Thurs.27.12.90. (Roderick Smith)
I had hoped when I scanned the trolleybus that a taverna would be revealed
behind it, but not so. I had ridden a trolleybus from the city centre to
the port, and alighted at a taverna several stops before the terminus, for
lunch with a view overlooking the harbour. That was my first sampling of
retsina.
Apart from being electric, in the foreground are tram rails still intact 13
years after closure.

Piraeus (Athinai, Greece): Works tram 59 at the metro depot.
Thurs.27.12.90. (Roderick Smith)
At the depot: my one photo of a Piraeus tram. Apparently it was operated on
batteries. It is now out of service, and part of a museum collection.
