Nice to hear from you in another time and place - hope all is going well! I concur with the memories of others on this topic although unfortunately I didn't land at school in North Sydney until the trams were gone. I do remember the tramway bridge being briefly used for road traffic. The Warringah Freeway was devastating to North Sydney resulting in hundreds of terrace houses and businesses being demolished.
