Richard,
I remember the inspector dropping a metal frog into the track at an Anzac Day 1974 race meeting.

Thanks for the information re Morphettville sidings, Jeff.

Unfortunately, I haven't been to Adelaide since 1986, at the time when the H cars were making the transition from trolley poles to pantographs. 25 years! Where does the time go.

Back in March 1970 I took the attached photo of one of the frogs where a siding at the racecourse crossed the Up main line.

The next image taken in October 1974 shows 379 and 380 arriving at the racecourse from Glenelg, with one of the sidings still in place, complete with overhead wiring, but at that time unused.

The overhead wiring above the trailing crossover between the Up and Down main lines shows the absence of frogs. As trams went through Morphettville at considerable speed when there were no race meetings on, the absence of frogs in the overhead would have avoided dewirements which could have damaged to trams and overhead and was a sensible move.

By the time of my first visit to Adelaide in 1964, the sidings were not used but still in place, as was the track in Colley Terrace, Glenelg.
