Hi Wayne, I agree, on a visit to Melbourne in the early 90s I was keen to have a ride on one of the L class trams to the Zoo. I remember chasing one up the street (near Victoria Markets??) with the wife in tow.
I posted said pic to my Flickr site & it might be in the archives here, otherwise I'll have to post it. I think it was November 1991 when we came down from Sydney for Phantom.
