Re: New tram network map

Surely it was a good time to get rid of the absurd terminus name Prahran. I agree that the map is deceptive with the terminus location.

Why is Carlisle Street called Balaclava Road west of Chapel Street? Carlisle Street doesn't change its name to Balaclava Road until it reaches Hotham Street.

I can't see why the 112 can't be shown crossing the 96 at right angles, as it does.

I don't like the way the 64 is shown turning from Dandenong Road into Hawthorn Road. To those who don't know otherwise, they would be waiting for an angle to happen and then another into Hawthorn Road.

While I am not suggesting the map needs to be to scale, it needs to vaguely represent how things really are. Look at the absurd distance between St Kilda Road and Chapel Street.

I am not so familiar with route 59, but having recently travelled to Essendon on the tram, I know it turns right at Moonee Ponds and then left a little further along and I think right again.

The MMTB and in some cases present management liked to often show cross streets at termini on destinations. They are not even marked on the map, an omission of helpful information.

If I try to put myself in a mindset of knowing nothing of Melbourne, I don't think this map is an improvement on the old one. Possibly worse.

Melbourne's new tram network map revealed
http://www.yarratrams.com.au/desktopdefault.aspx/tabid-39/44_read-2828/

Metlink and Yarra Trams have launched a new tram network map.
New map can be viewed here - http://www.metlinkmelbourne.com.au/maps-stations-stops/metropolitan-maps/metropolitan-tram-network-map/

-----------------

Definite improvement on the older style, although probably could have rationalised line colours on St Kilda Rd a little.

Disappointing the error are the 78 at Prahran, implying it intersects with Glenhuntly Rd (rather than Brighton Rd) and that the terminus is a walking distance to Elsternwick.

Also slightly unfortunate that 16 & 78 are similar colours. but at least it'll be a little easier to trace the 16!

Kind Regards
