Re: Vintage Tramway Festival - Boyles pub

The CBA ATM that Ian referred to as being in the block north of Sutho station is in the "front window" of the Liquorland bottle shop.  Could be  VERY convenient for the "typical" TDUer.  [ :-) ]   Also in this block is the credit union ATM and also an ANZ branh and ATM.

Boyles pub is undergoing refurbishment and our favourite bar closed last week. The new saloon bar opened at the same time but, at the present time, is very noisy. The fully refurbished pub will include a bistro and they have taken over the shop next door to accommodate this.  There have not been train and tram photos on the walls for many years.

Don't bank on parking in the TAFE grounds!

Subject: [TramsDownUnder] Vintage Tramway Festival - How to get there

In regard to Tony's question about travelling to Loftus by public transport (and others by car)  to the STM Vintage Tramway Festival the following might help
Loftus railway station adjoins STM. Loftus is served by CityRail suburban electric trains that run between Bondi Junction and Waterfall at 30 minute intervals in each direction
People travelling from the Wollongong area can travel to Waterfall by CityRail interurban service, detrain and a connecting suburban service stopping at Loftus usually departs four minutes later
There is a more frequent CityRail service between the City and Sutherland - the additional trains then proceed to and from Cronulla
It is about a 400 metre walk from Sutherland station to the STM northern terminus. As Ian McCowan mentioned in an earlier post there are sandwich and cake shops en route and nearby.  The footpath between the station and the tram terminus is not paved for the whole way. What he did not mention is that Boyles pub is also en route. It has several beers on tap and tram and train pictures on the walls!
Track capacity would dictate a tram between the museum and the northern terminus about every 15/20 minutes and I believe that this is the plot
The CityRail timetable web site is reasonably easy to use and can be found at  www.cityrail.info/timetable/index.jsp
The Musem has  frontages to the Illawarra Railway, Rawson Avenue and Pitt Street with its gate in Pitt Street
Those driving to the Musem fom the north should approach along Rawson Avenue (Old Prices Highway) via Sutherland shopping centre - there is no entry off the present Princes Highway from that direction
Those driving from the south should deviate into Rawson Avenue shortly after crossing the tramway level crossing over the highway
Parking will be available in Pitt Street outside the Mueum, in Rawson Avenue and in the Technical College grounds, with entry from Pitt Street
More spaces will be available in railway car parks on the western side of Loftus station with access to the Museum via the pedestrian bridge
Vintage buses will be operating a shuttle service between the Museum and Sutherland shopping centre both days
There are barbeques available within the Musem, there will be a sausage sizzle and a coffee van operating and the Museum kiosk will be well stocked with pies, sausage rolls, ice creams and drinks and the bookshop will be open
Preparations are well in hand at Loftus. #805 has been inspected and checked out, new points have been installed at Depot Junction and traction wire has been erected over the Cross Street link and all the other operable Sydney passenger and works trams are being cleaned and adjusted
This will be one of the biggest and most exciting events ever held at Loftus!
Terry Boardman - who hopes to drive on Saturday afternoon

How often will trams run up this line and how long does it take (and is it an easy walk) between Sutherland station and the tram terminus? (Haven't been up that end for years so a bit rusty on it.)
