Hi David,

Not sure what will happen to the trams as I'm not involved with the organisation anymore. I'm assuming the trams will stay there whilst they do the clean up, which is being done by the Bendigo council. The proposal is to open up the gasworks as a tourist attraction, which will involve the removal of years of accumulated pollution from gas production. This will no doubt take several years and a large contribution from us ratepayers to remedy!

Several years ago when the Hargreaves Street depot was being extended and modernised, most of the trams then stored at the gasworks were temporarily moved into the grounds of the ordnance factory and the gaswork's tram shed was used as a temporary depot for the tourist tram service. About half of the gasworks is presently fenced off due to the present toxic nature of the site, and the fear that those who venture in will end up with two heads and four legs!!!!!

Cheers,

Andrew (a local ratepayer).

What happens to all the stored (and seemingly beyond restoration) trams on the lakeside of the gas works? Also what happens to the trams in storage anyway?
