It’s been ages since some idiot has driven along the tram track and got stuck somewhere.

From a newspaper image I saw elsewhere, and the fact services were still operating to Queen Street, the motorist went just beyond the depot entrance tracks and got stuck where the paved decking ends and the rails are supported on high longitudinal beams so trams were able to shunt inside the depot.

Gold Coast light rail services suspended as car drives along tracks

GOLD Coast light rail users are facing their second interruption to services in less than 24 hours, with yet another car straying on to the tracks.

A 60-year-old man drove a sedan on to the tracks near the Smith St bridge at Southport at 6.15am, and began travelling along the tracks near the G: Link depot.

The car became wedged, and crews were still working to remove the vehicle an hour later.

The driver wasn’t injured.

Light rail services were still running between Broadbeach and Queen St, and again from the Gold Coast University Hospital to Helensvale, with a bus expected to link the two until at least 9am.

It follows an accident at Broadbeach yesterday afternoon where a car crossed the tracks and hit a metal pole near Australia Ave, delaying services for an hour.
