New Monash railway line and station
  Dudley Horscroft

I note the following:

"Monash University has welcomed the Government’s commitment to build a transformational rail line and station at Clayton campus,
creating a vital transport link for the thousands that visit Monash each day." (from the CILT newsletter).

There is an existing railway station at Clayton, which would appear to be a short walk from the Monash Clayton campus (2.51 km from
station to University Book shop - usually sited at or near the centre of the University).

A new railway line - unless in a tunnel under the University - horribly expensive - would surely have to be either at grade or
elevated from Huntingdale Station along North Road to Princes Highway, then along Princes Highway to Westall Road and south along
the latter back to the railway east of Westall Station. This is about 5.6 km, depending on how much distance can be shaved by
rounding off the corners. Still expensive.

Does anyone have any better idea of the route?
