Maybe it is not 11M as it looks like 71 M or one with a large van which were used on services where parcels coaches weren’t scheduled.
Ashburton, Altona etc. Cannot remember 11 M being on the Ashie Dasher

Hi Dean,

Best of luck with the research. You mention the Warragul school train. Here's a picture of a lout misbehaving in one of the BC cars on the Warragul school train in 1968. Whoever it is, they have a striking resemblance to myself in my younger days!!!!!

Cheers,

Andrew C. (who remembers those BC cars boring along at 70 mph behind an L class electric juice-jack. OH&S overlords please take note!!!!!!!).

Not modelling (at least not yet), just trying to sort-out some ambiguities in the rolling stock records (like the story about Mansard-roofed carriages being converted to EMUs). The clues as to which 'group' 11 M belongs to are whether the van section is panelled or matchboard, and whether there are one or two panels between each pair of the first five compartments.

Unfortunately, both are seven-compartment carriages, one converted from a five-compartment AC (First Class bogie car with Guards compartment, was ADAD when built), and the other from a six-compartment AC.

Thanks for flip-flopping, but my eyes just aren't good enough to see the detail; maybe someone else on that tour has a more side-on photo. 11 M was scrapped in August the following year. My next 'project' is to find good photos of each of the BC cars (unconverted Dogbox "M"s), many of which were used as end-cars (being dual-coupled) on steam rail tours in the 1960s.

Thanks again Andrew !
