This final historic Bendigo shot brings back a lot of memories for me - of a quieter smaller Bendigo improbably operating Birney Safety Cars in everyday traffic in the mid 1960s when I first visited.
Around 6,000 Birneys were built between 1916 and the mid 20's  and only a few - including 4 at Bendigo - were operating 40 years later.

The other feature of this shot is a pretty clear view of the contacts in the overhead which detected the passing of trolley poles in the loop and controlled the Forest City signals that managed the single line operations of the SEC tramways.
30 has just passed the contact detecting entry to the final section of single track to Golden Square.

Mal Rowe - grateful to Bendigo Tramways that he can still enjoy the same ride.
