Indeed - witness all the Pakenham trains mostly stopping all stations from
Caulfield and running via the loop so starting out to go east by going
west. 80' average journey. Huge numbers of Carnegie-Oakleigh passengers
use these trains meaning they are over crowded whereas if there were some
short distance trains say Oakleigh and the Pakenhams didn't stop say
Caulfield to Oakleigh there would be a better spread of passengers and
seats. Of course the loss of around 25 seats per carriage didn't help.
Oakleigh locals could fit in 2 or 3 peak hour returns into the bargain.
