CESLR works in George Street
  Matthew Geier

Some completed track in George Street near the QVB I took last Thursday
evening. They started work here over 2 years ago. This section I gather
is supposed to be finished before Christmas. If the idea is to open the
street up for the Christmas shopping rush, they are rapidly running out
of time. (In complete contrast with Adelaide, who already have track
down in North Terrace!)

Two photos show track with the granite slab infill. I note that the APS
system STILL doesn't have the safety segment in the middle of the
insulated section, so it really does look like there will be no
'crowbar' protection for a segment failing to turn off - unless they are
going to have an earthed (to the wheels) brush/shoe at each end of the tram.

It would be interesting to see what their PR people have to say about
the lack of this safety feature from all prior installations of APS.

Also the project is using Alstom APS 'branded' pit lids, yes I know
getting 'branded' pit lids is not all that more expensive than a generic
one, but it does tend to reinforce the belief the project is being 'gold
plated'.
