I imagine the NE quadrant would have been used for early morning trams from Hackney Depot to the northern termini, and last trams back.

Sorry for misinterpreting your query.  Ther has been no definite announcement yet regarding the the service patterns on completion of the extension. This is still several months hence. However some pointers are:

the North Tce/King William layout which will permit S-W, E-W and S-N servicesthe acquisition of just 3 additional Citadisesthe introduction from last month of a bus shuttle along North Tce linking the old and new Royal Adelaide Hospitals.  It was stated that this would be replaced by a tram service.My expectation is that the Glenelg - Entertainment Centre will remain much as is, there will be an East - West Tce shuttle and that the northern leg will only be used for special events.
As far as I am aware the 20th cent tram network had no regular services over the NW and NE links of the grand junction and currently only one bus service, the North Adelaide/CBD connector uses the NE sife of the this junction.
